we ended up on uship through facebook bec my bff adopted a dog in Florida and he needed to end up in North Bay, Ontario. we had feelers out with various pet rescue transport agencies but the atlanta to detroit leg was a problem so we started looking at commercial shippers.
at first blush, the uship concept is fantastic - ppl who are going from here to there connect with ppl who need stuff to go from here to there.
execution on the surface is simple - fill in the blanks, wait for the bids to roll in.
BUT WAIT! it is NOT that simple.
turns out, ALL communications are visible to EVERYBODY, including ppl who are not even members! not only does this mean it's possible for misunderstandings to arise but it means anybody can come into the forum, cherry-pick information, and then use google to track you down on facebook and solicit your business there. ask us how we know.
if tamainv wasn't such an incredibly amazing shipper, we'd've bailed. we ended up so confused and so freaked out, we didn't want to continue but she talked us through it and made us feel a lot better about the whole thing. you guys need to give her a commission for retaining the shipment. she was also extremely reasonable with her bid - reasonable to the point that when she lowered it, we refused and insisted she keep the original.
if uship were to implement at least the most basic level of security - which is, ONLY registered members can view the shipping bids forum; any old phpBB can manage this one! - we'd feel a lot better about the whole thing.
one more thing: your mobile app. it is REALLY BAD. it's not possible to reply to inboxed messages, for one thing. you can see them, but there is no reply function. the functions are not intuitive and some are downright obscure. in the end, laura had to skip using the phone entirely (her only means of internet access) and dictate to me so i could use the uship site itself
