Canyon, a gorgeous and sweet German Shepherd, found himself in a high-kill, rural shelter in South Crolina. His owners were tracked down but did not want him back. The shelter staff fell in love with him and asked for help over the internet to find him a home. However, after two months, there was no home in sight, and Canyon ended up on death row. We are a small rescue group in Baltimore and we offered to take Canyon in and care for him until we find him a home that will love a cherish him forever. However, there was 14 hours of driving between us and Canyon. The volunteer transport we tried to set up fell through and the clock was ticking for Canyon. Someone told me about Uship, but I did not take it seriously (sorry Uship) as I have never heard about it and don't know anyone who did. In desparation I listed Canyon's transport, just to calm my conscience that I did not leave a stone unturned. The 4th of July holiday was coming up, and we started losing hope. Then, two days after the volunteer transport fell through, the bid came in at 9PM. We had three hours to accept the bid, as the transporter was leaving Florida in the morning. I was very nervous since this was our first time using Uship and we did not understand fully the way it works. The transporter was new and did not have feedback yet, and we were concerned to entrust a live creature to someone we knew nothing about. We organized a conference call between MD, SC and NH and after a long discussion decided to go for it. I accepted the bid at 11PM. We were pleasantly surprised when the tranporter arrived in SC to pick Canyon up. He and his wife were wonderful and we were very comfortable with them caring for our boy Canyon. Finally, after a long ride Canyon arrived in Baltimore at 2AM in the morning - in excallent shape and mood. Thanks to Uship we saved a life. Canyon is enjoying life in his foster home and is looking forward to a loyal forever home. He sends big, sloppy kisses to Uship.
