After several negative experiences & lost deposits with brokers, I accepted a bid through Uship 2 years ago this month. I was delighted to finally find an actual trucker. His name... Frederick Hulbert.
Frederick was pleasant & seemed very nice. However, he took over 3 weeks to pick up my vehicle after several promised pick up dates were scheduled. Luckily I had a very patient seller.
When he did finally did p/u my car he took it to his house in PA, promising to deliver it within a couple weeks.
The 1st delay - a family crisis.. then winter weather.. twice. Many promised dates & trips all fell through. 3 and 4 months would pass without any response to my calls or emails. Occassionally Fred would call with his next promised date or news of his trouble in booking a return load.
I guessed he must be a good old boy who just wasn't very organized.
I was almost sure I would never see my car, but kept banking that he at the least, was honest. I found I was wrong.
This spring after a 1.5 year wait, Fred called to say he wasn't going to make it & I should find another trucker.
I began to look again on Uship. A week later to my surprise I received a message from Fred that the car was loaded & he was on his way. Drop off would be mid May. 2 weeks later, he called from IN needing part payment to afford the gas to get to ID. I was so happy he was actually coming, I wired him a $500.00 deposit. That was a big mistake.
Months passed - no communication - no response to my calls or emails.
Eventually a message - he wouldn't be coming & the car was in IN.
I called several times each day for weeks - no response.
Eventually I listed on Uship again in late Aug & found Truckindaddy. What a delight... a trucker who actually communicated every few days. Very organized & efficient. Somehow he arranged pick up of my car with Fred. He also picked up a 2nd vehicle for me, called regularly, and even beat his deadline in Sept.
A happy ending after a 2yr wait. Thanks Gene!
