I recently purchased a highly carved and painted antique Showmans Wagon (i.e. horse-drawn "gypsy caravan" very ornately carved and decorated. The wagon is approx. 12 feet high, plus a chimney, almost 13'6" long and although the wheelbase is 5', the body and roof of the wagon spread out to approx 7' in total. I spent a great deal of time on the net trying to source a company which would transport the vehicle to me, a distance of 28 miles. The first quote was for £700 PLUS the transport firm required me to get a Movement Order from the Police - and for me to organise and pay for a Police escort for the vehicle! Other quotes ranged around the £200 - £250 mark. A couple of transporters came to look at the wagon but when they saw the height of it refused to risk transporting it because the centre of gravity would be too high for their trailer / low-loader. I had a quote of £125 from tonyspatrol based in Derby. This seemed far more reasonable and was the cheapest quote I received. However I checked his website and was delighted to find almost 100% excellent feedback, gained from transporting a very wide range of vehicles. From the initial approach to Tony Bates, I had the fullest possible answers to my questions ( I was VERY worried about getting the vehicle safely here and had never moved anything like this before.) We finalised details and I organised a couple of friends to assist with the loading. The wagon was well secured with padded strapping whilst on the journey and it arrived here in perfect condition. Tony took a great deal of care to ensure that it was off-loaded as carefully as it had been put onto the transporter. I have every confidence in recommending tonyspatrol and if I need to move any vehicle in future will have no hesitation in contacting him to move it for me. A great credit to the tranport industry.
