My horse boarder had been keeping our horses in Louisiana a full year since we moved from Louisiana to Virginia and she needed the space back for her own horses (she was doing us a favor), and the only time we could move them was the week before Christmas. I only got four bids and Kevin was the first bid I received and there was nothing exceptional looking about the bid, very businesslike and dry. Some of the other bids were much more personal and touchy-feely. But after lots of questions back and forth, I went with him, primarily because of the quality of his insurance. He handled only MY horses, he let us follow him to Virginia the whole way, stayed in constant phone contact with us so he wouldn't lose us, took a route I didn't know that shaved hours and miles off the trip, stopped and fed us lunch at downhome country diners where everybody knew his name, and even let us haul 77 bales of Louisiana's $3/bale coastal bermuda hay in the back of his empty trailer at no additional charge. There is a drought in VA and hay is $9/bale, so that saved us astronomical amounts of money, and he even helped us load it. Just after the trip started, we got a call from VA that mom had been hospitalized with pneumonia, and he offered to drive straight through with no sleep to get me there early. I couldn't make it and we did have to stop for four hours of sleep, but he was an absolute trooper, and even called a couple of days after the trip to check on Mom. He is one of the best human beings we have ever met, and you really get to know somebody when you take a road trip with them. He is a prince of a man, professional at what he does, affordable, kind and easygoing. What more could you ask for in your horse hauler? We were blown away. (And he can sing to boot! Ask him to sing for you.)
